There have long been economic spaces in between Americans of different backgrounds, and our survey also discovers gaps in monetary literacy: Americans in households with upper incomes (72%) are most likely than those in homes with middle (56%) or lower earnings (42%) to say they know a minimum of a reasonable quantity about individual finances.

And 22% of those with lower incomes say this, compared with less than 10% of those with middle or upper earnings (9% and 5% respectively).
